Guilt – Poetry

Guilt

By J.A Weymouth

Day is like opening,

seeping a while not there

deep, thorough and momentless

it carries – stops/taken – the word is ever.

An unavoidable grasp sends

a wave to a shiver

as the memory curls

the motion blurs

a stain fixes itself

onto a translucent permanence.

It doesn’t care of the action.

& all of memory is divided and focused.

Parallel thoughts hinder it

& overwhelms.

The fist clenches as the eyes begin to stare.

That unknown triviality – frail like

but weighs against the mind and it

bemoans/shifts

Calming into a comatose state of denying

Let go.

  1. Lovely. The dark tones are so prevalent, it really adds depth to the poem. I can almost feel the emotion guilt.

I especially love this “& all of memory is divided and focused.”. It’s a great turn of phrase, reminds me of a Donne sermon.

  2. Your imagery is so evocative and I love your word choice. Especially the line

    a stain fixes itself

    onto a translucent permanence.

This gives off a strong mental image. So yes, right back at you, I enjoy reading you as well! 😀

I love how you conveyed the emotions he in the poem. My favorite lines were the ones I posted above. The way guilt morphs and becomes permanent.

    • Very true. Guilt is a hard thing to “Let go” and sometimes it is the only way to deal with it. Sometimes “letting go” can help forget but when the memory returns, so do the feelings with it, and then it just becomes a vicious cycle. But that, I suppose is the nature of guilt…. hmm I’m rambling… thanks again for the comment 🙂

I love how these words flow together. It feels like slow release into a deep memory. Or a fragment of what resides.
